MySQL version on SandyBay

Postby Empire » Sun Jul 25, 2010 3:01 am

Decided to open a thread to revisit a discussion from November. SandyBay is still in the MySQL 5.0 version - moved from 5.0.81 to 5.0.90 over the 9 months.
I encountered 5.1.46 on another Cpanel system recently.

Can we revisit what are the possibilities for moving to MySQL 5.1 on SandyBay? I believe no mods (security or other) were done to 5.0 beyond 5.0.92, and 5.1 has been in use for a few years.

There are upgrade issues that may or may not affect users on the server.

Hi Empire,

This must be a case where I never got notified of this thread (until you just emailed me about it ;)).

I am curious to know if the other cPanel server you mention is running the Stable, Release, Current, or Edge branch? The version of MySQL installed on SandyBay is the one that cPanel maintains on the Release branch. AFAIK, only the Edge branch supports MySQL 5.1 by default.

However, I can easily force cPanel to go to MySQL 5.1 (they even have a GUI procedure to do that now) But there is a concern something will break especially when I read through the known issues in the second link you provided. I see the benefits outweigh the concerns so I'll add this to the discussion list for the next maintenance window.

It is cPanel Version 11.25.0-RELEASE
Perhaps they over-rode the default MySQL version as you mention.

I have no pressing need for 5.1, just curious because I have seen both 5.0 and 5.1 in use on Cpanel systems in the last few months. As you say, it will be a topic for upcoming mods.
